Earth Day Deeside

On Saturday 17th April 2010, over 500 visitors, exhibitors and car booters joined us at Earth Day Deeside.  A day of all things energy efficient, re-useable and re-cyclable.

We jumped on the Global Earth Day bandwagon with this one.  Earth Day began in 1970 in the United States and by 1990 had emerged as a global phenomenon.  The aim was to push enviromental issues to the forefront of the political agenda.  Today, 1 billion people in 174 countries are involved in organising and participating in a huge range of activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world.

As the environment is such an important factor today, and with the installation of our new wood pellet district heating system and automated composter, we thought it would be a fitting time to get involved.  In addition to these new members of our 'green' family, we already have a recycling plant on-site, we save our rainwater, and collect excess fat from our cooking to fertilise our fields.  But despite our best efforts, we can always learn more.

Councillor Peter Argyle opened our 1st ever Earth day and introduced our exhibitors, with over 500 people through the park during the day everyone went home with an idea of being a bit more green.

The event ran from 11 am to 4 pm and was free to everyone that attended.

Exhibitors on the day were:
Aberdeenshire Council Waste Aware

Aberdeen City Waste Aware

The forestry Commission

Aberdeen Forward

Puffin Pellets

Roy Cowie Landbased Services

G5 Technologies

Nuergy

Donside Heating

Phase NRG

DWR Architecture

Ian Ballantyne

Thank you to everyone that made the day a great success.
